Feeling trapped in the house with your kids?

Here is a list of 7 cheap activities to help tame your boredom.

Do you feel trapped in the house with your kids?

It isn't always possible to find things to do with your kid outside of the home. Sometimes it’s the weather, or it could be allergies, illness, or maybe a *worldwide pandemic. Maybe you are trying to save money, so being out and about doing fun activities can create additional financial strain. Whether you are staying home due to social distancing or financial responsibilities, there are plenty of ways to have fun with your kids at home and on a budget.

Let's talk about some free and inexpensive indoor activities that you and your kid can share in.

Aubrey is pictured with the blueprints he drew for his tape tracks. Create roads for toy vehicles utilizing colored tape on the floors. This movement will keep your kid occupied by playing with their toy cars and trains on the temporary streets you created for them. Activities like this create an inexpensive diversion that takes very little time to create.

7. Build a fort.

Kids love forts and tents! There are lots of ways to build an at-home fort. You could start with some sheets or blankets and drape them over chairs or stacked pillows on either end to create a central haven. If your kids have a small dome light, iPad, or cellphone, they will love sitting in their fort reading or watching movies. Don't be too big of a grown-up to join them if you are lucky enough to get invited. Understand that an invitation inside of their home fortress is an honor. Welcome it.

Sometimes things don't go as planned, and we have to figure out a different way to manage our lives. We have to figure out alternatives to our norm on the fly, with little time to prepare. Some of us are accustomed to throwing money at everything and solving our problems that way. What happens when you have to stay at home? Can you find all the opportunities around you to reconnect with your kids? Do you remember to look at what is already there? Our children want our time, our empathy; they want to know that we are listening and that we care. Its a more significant reward when the things you do inside are fun, modest, and offer you the chance to bond with your family. These exercises can give long stretches of imaginative amusement to even the most impenetrable of family spending plans.
